This is my new sound hole pickup the bobbin is made of rosewood with tall 18mm Alnico-5 poles to allow me to wind it quite hot and still be able to encase it in wood,

Ive had great results with “Timberbuckers” on electric guitars and wanted to mic up my old Fender Dreadnought without cutting a hole for an EQ, I experimented with a fender stratocaster pickup, which i made a cradle for and placed it in the sound hole but it sounded muddy and dull, so i set about hand winding one, I made the bobbin with 2mm rosewood, and used the tallest alnico-5 poles that I had I gave it Ten thousand winds of 42 AWG enamelled Copper Wire which gives it a resistance of 7.25, I took the decision not to wax pot this one as i wanted to see if the vibration from the sound board being attached directly to the bobbin would enhance the sound with a slight microphonic affect,  hand winding tends to be a bit looser and can be prone to squeal without potting,  i was not expecting miracles, but when i heard it it blew me away, the Higher Resonant Peak you get with hand winding, combined with the timber bobbin makes it sparkle at the top end and gives great mids and lows, I am so pleased with the results i have made it a permanent fixture on the dreadnought, and fitted a jack button, which meant drilling into my favorite acoustic which i bought new in 1985, i can tell you i wouldn’t do that to my pride and joy if it didn’t, warrant it, What about the squeal? well i’m still testing it, I  tried it in a small uncarpeted room with a 100 watt marshal and maxed it out it did feed back when i got face on within a couple of feet but i would expect that with any guitar let alone an acoustic so, so far so good, i need to try it in a pa system in a loud environment but my gut tells me its going to be ok given the test on the guitar amp,
