EB0/3 Custom ReBuild

Having Restored the 1964 EB0 using parts from a donor guitar that we found, which was a 1965 which had been been poorly converted using a Precision bass bridge pickup,  I had to decide what to do with the woodwork from the donor. the neck had been repaired resulting in the loss of the serial number on the back of the head stock, so it wasn’t really

a collectors piece but even so played like butter. so having found a recipient, for the project  I sanded back the hand painted varnish.

The head stock break has been done professionally and doesn’t require any further repairs but years of loose strap buttons have created a hole, which is plugged with mahogany.

Parts for these early EB0’s are getting harder and harder to come by and hence more and more expensive, baring in mind this one has had its neck broken and body routed we decide to custom build new parts, and a new rosewood scratch plate is fashioned.

and a new hand wound Alnico 5 “Timberbucker” Rosewood bobbin is made see below left  the old ceramic magnet pickup compared to the new hand wound the alnico poles are higher than the old steel pole ceramic magnet combo, so we can get many more copper winds on, “more winds more power”

customer wants a natural finish, so I Just fill the grain black and give it about 6-7 coats of Tung oil.

An Epihone mudbucker is installed for the neck (doesent growl quite like the original 1960s hand wound ones but its within budget) the hand wound Timberbucker has a lovely tone. couldn’t find a gibson rotary switch but found an RAF aircraft one that fits.
